2008 STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

The Preseason has begun and we are in full swing in our planning for this upcoming season!!!

Last season was an exceptional year for the club as we ended up with 203 members!!!  A couple things I wanted to say about the club this past season.  First, 203 members is incredible.  The previous high in membership for this club goes back to the 94-95 season when membership almost hit 150 people.  This past season far exceeded my expectations and I thank all of you for coming out and joining in the fun and fellowship.  Lets go for 250 this season!!!  Second, I want to thank everyone who helped out to make last year go as smooth as it did - from the membership signups to the raffles, squares, Pittsburgh Days, Chili Cook-off, selling the club shirts and the Grasshoppers Game.  These things couldn’t have been possible without a lot of great people giving up their time and energy.  This club wouldn’t be anything but a place to watch the game if it wasn’t for the efforts of all those involved.  Third, I wanted to give a shout out to all those who came week after week to support the Steelers and the club.  When you have 200 people together in one place full of emotion and alcohol, anything can happen!!  I am happy to say that there were no major or minor incidents that occurred during the season (just me ripping apart the stuffed Jaguar and throwing stuffing everywhere during the Post-Season game) that would have put this special community in jeopardy.  Just shows the greatness of Steelers fans if you ask me.  Finally, I want to thank the Pour House and all the staff for making this a great place to gather and watch the games.  They bend over backwards to accommodate our needs and demands and sometimes it isn’t easy to deal with Steelers Fans – especially when we lose – or drink too much (that never happens)!

Ok, enough about last year.  What is there to look forward too this season?  Well, where do I begin?

STEELER FAN CLUB DAY @ THE GRASSHOPPERS

For the second year we will have a Steelers Day at the Grasshoppers game this Aug. 30th.  Details are being emailed out and for those who didn’t give their email address, you should be getting a call with the details.  Last year a great time was had by all….we were able to participate in a couple between inning events – Build a Burger and Put Your Face On and the evening was capped off by a Fireworks Show!  The same will be true this year.  In addition the Grasshoppers are going to allow us to go out on the field prior to the gates opening to the general public for a Group Photo so please don’t miss out on this.

Myron Cope Memorial Season Kickoff

For the opening game this season on Sept. 7th, we will have a Myron Cope Memorial to the longtime voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers and inventor of the Terrible Towel.  Every member will receive a FREE Terrible Towel, compliments of the Fan Club and the Pour House.  At halftime of the game we will have a Moment of Silence Terrible Towel Wave as a tribute to Myron as well as a short video.

3rd ANNUAL PITTSBURGH DAYS

For the Third year in a row, we will be having a special event called Pittsburgh Days with authentic Pittsburgh food, great raffles and much more.  It has been a great success and enjoyed by all.  This season we are planning the 3rd Annual Pittsburgh Days and it will be bigger and better than ever.  Mark your calendars for October 26th!!!  We will start the party at 1pm (game starts at 4:15pm) with live entertainment from the blues band Joe Washrag (www.joewashrag.com), back for the second year in a row.  We will again have awesome Pittsburgh famous foods, special raffles and much more.  We are looking to blow last years Pittsburgh Days out of the water!!!!  More information will be available at the Season Opener on the 7th.

2nd Annual Chili Cookoff

Last year we threw together a Chili Cookoff last minute and it was AWESOME!!!  So of course when it was brought up about having one again this season, everyone was for it.  Everyone is encouraged to make chili and enter it into the contest.  Last year we had cash prizes for the top 3 chili’s in the house and we will do something similar this year.  Specific details to follow later this season but be ready to eat some Chili!!!

NEED WE SAY MORE!!!
